Invest Connect Explore 2019 Review

The UEZ showcase event returned for a succesful 2nd year

May 30th 2019

ICE 2019, the showcase event of UWE Bristol’s University Enterprise Zone (UEZ), was back in May for a great evening of networking, pitching and entrepreneurial excitement.

Over 100 delegates had the opportunity to engage with leading entrepreneurs, graduate start-ups and established SME businesses from each of the UEZ Hubs and listen to how they have taken cutting edge technologies and developed them into exciting, growing enterprises.

Even though we see these companies every day, the diversity of talent and disciplines within the UEZ community still blows us away when all brought together. In the pitching session of the evening alone we heard from entrepreneurs focusing on robotics, microbiology, health tech, fintech, cyber security, microelectronics, smart technology, analytics and AI, cell and gene therapy and IoT…surely there can’t be another localised ecosystem with such depth and variety of fields.

The University Enterprise Zone is an entrepreneurial community housing four hubs: Launch Space: A graduate incubator that provides free desk space and business support for start-up businesses in the heart of our University Enterprise Zone.

With a community of over 40 SME’s, Future Space connects entrepreneurs and tech innovators with scientists, researchers and graduate talent – to spark collaboration, innovation and growth.

Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) is the most comprehensive academic centre for multi-disciplinary robotics research in the UK. Health Tech Hub: The Health Tech Hub helps businesses to develop and bring to market new technology solutions which promote health and wellbeing, particularly focusing on independent living and citizen-centric health

If you’d like to know more about the businesses who were on show, you can find all their details in the ICE 2019 Programme, or alternatively reach out to us at or 0117 428 0200.
