Friday 22 January 2026 was a special day at Future Space as we welcomed HRH The Prince of Wales to our building to see first-hand the impact of the technologies being developed by our resident companies.

The visit formed part of a wider collaboration with our partners at UWE Bristol and the University of Bristol, and we were incredibly proud that much of the day took place right here at Future Space. Our labs and workspaces became the backdrop for filming and conversations about how robotics and assistive technologies are improving lives.
Two of our resident companies were at the heart of the visit: Supersmith founders Tom and Emily Morgan demonstrated their self-stabilising 3Scooter, designed to improve mobility and independence for people living with MS and other disabilities. The Prince even took the technology for a short test drive, experiencing the innovation first-hand.
Milbotix The team shared their work on smart socks and robotic interventions that help detect distress in people living with dementia, highlighting how thoughtful technology design can support better care and quality of life.
Seeing companies we support every day, through specialist lab space, business support and a collaborative innovation environment, featured on regional and national media, including BBC Points West and Bristol Live, was a proud moment for our whole community.
It’s a powerful reminder of why Future Space exists: to give ambitious founders the space, support and connections they need to turn complex ideas into technologies that make a real difference.
Matt Freeman, Future Space Centre Director, commented:
“Hosting a Royal visit is a real testament to the quality of work happening at Future Space. We’re proud to support companies like Supersmith and Milbotix as they develop technologies with genuine social impact, right here in Bristol.”
If you’re developing breakthrough technologies and need high-spec lab space, flexible offices and a supportive innovation community, we’d love to show you around.
