Workshop: Aerospace and robotic technologies for the wind and solar energy sector

April 28, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

The workshop “The use of drones and robots for Wind and Solar Operations and Maintenance” will demonstrate new robotic and aerospace technologies and concepts with potential application to Operation & Maintenance tasks of wind and solar energy

This is a singular event organized by the University of West of England (UWE) in collaboration with DURABLE partners. It focuses on novel technologies linked to aerial inspection and manipulation of wind and solar farms, additive manufacturing, non-destructive testing, remote control or augmented reality, which allows improving operation and maintenance technologies and increasing the efficiency and up-time of wind and solar farms.

This workshop will show onsite demonstrations of novel technologies developed in DURABLE, a collaborative European R&D project in which 12 partners have demonstrated improvements such as the automation of inspection and repair tasks or the rapid replacement of parts, reducing costs and improving the productivity of the new plants.

Agenda (Thursday April 28)

  • 09:30 – 10:00 Welcome and introduction to the project (ESTIA: coordinator)
  • 10:00 – 11:30 Presentation of the technologies developed by technical partners
    • VICE (Virtual Immersive Cockpit Environment): A versatile virtual cockpit to remotely supervise and control a multi-system of heterogeneous vehicles. Patxi Berard (ESTIA)
    • Non Destructive Inspection of wind turbine blade components and Solar panels based in thermography and electroluminescence. Pablo Lopez (LORTEK)
    • Trajectory planning for a formation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles inspecting wind turbine. Jesús Capitán (University of Seville)
