GM61 joined Future Space in November 2024 to explore new opportunities for innovation in sterile services. This is their story…
Matthew LeMasonry founded GM61 as a management consultancy company more than 15 years ago. Through this work he has become a specialist in delivering decontamination and sterile service solutions to healthcare providers across the UK.
“I work with my clients to complete change projects and build super centres, which are big sterile services departments”, Matthew explains. “This is where medical instruments go after they have been used by medical professionals to carry out operations in theatre. At these facilities they are cleaned, sterilised and repackaged before returning to the NHS or other healthcare facility. Each super centre provides services to multiple hospitals and GM61 is currently Project Managing the creation of a new super centre in Southampton.”
Disrupting the industry
Over the past 15-20 years Matthew has become known as a leader in supporting sterile services in the UK, and he is now keen to combine this experience with his passion for innovation.
“This industry has hardly changed – the same industry processes have gone on forever. Historically there’s not been much innovation, but now that needs to change – we must become more carbon efficient and streamline the process so we can better cope with the growing demands on our health services,” he says.
Matthew is keen to explore innovative solutions such as robotics and better use of data and analytics to disrupt the marketplace, ultimately reducing waste and making it more efficient and sustainable.
As well as discovering new opportunities for innovation, Matthew is also working with a new provider to deliver Track and Trace software for Sterile Services into the UK and Ireland.
A new beginning
This project has already led to growth as GM61 has gone from two to five. It was this need for growth and innovation that led Matthew to Future Space.
“Future Space made sense; not only is it home to the Health Tech Hub and the BRL, but we are surrounded by interesting startups doing fascinating things that we can learn from. We can also tap into the business and innovation support on-site and support from the Advisory_Space. We haven’t been here long so it’s early days but I’m excited for what opportunities will arise in 2025!”
