The best, brightest and seemingly thirstiest of the Bristol and Bath Tech community were out last week for The SPARKies 2019. The Assembly Rooms in Bath was the rather grand location to celebrate the growing success of the sector across the region, but the TechSPARK team delivered on keeping the fun, friendly and rebellious atmosphere that we know well.
The TechSPARK team had noted prior to the event that they had received a record number of nominations and that the quality was the highest they had ever seen. The breadth and diversity of talent operating in our region certainly shone through as the awards themselves started to roll out.
Future Space sponsored “The Hard Award” – recognising the particular challenges involved in either developing a new piece of hardware, or using existing physical tech in new ways. While we were hoping that our own intelligence and autonomy specialists Fusion Processing could take home the prize, the eventual winner was the fantastic LetUsGrow for their work in developing the “farms of the future”.
Shout outs also too to Future Spacers Service Robotics and Homelync, who should be proud of making the shortlists amongst some amazing businesses even if they didn’t win this year.It was a different story for Open Bionics however, who walked away with the aptly named “Totally Killing It” award and also scooped the “People’s Choice” – voted for by attendees on the night.
An unofficial award could also be given to Open Bionic’s table for definitely having the wildest celebrations as their name was announced!Overall it was a brilliant night that really captured why we enjoy supporting the tech sector in our region so much and why it’s only going to get bigger from here.
